How volunteering works at the Saturday courses

Why is there a page about volunteers?

Because at the Lördagskurserna, it is only volunteers that are helping out. And they could use a little help too :+1:

Which tasks are there?

These are the current tasks:

• Host: welcomes our participants and takes care of the administration. You can become a host.
• Teacher: helps teach. You can become a teacher.
• Course leader: leads a course. You can become a course leader.
• Coordinator: ensures all courses can run smoothly and is end responsible. You can become a coordinator.
• Whatever you want to do more :-) Contact us!

How to become a volunteer?

That depends on what you want to do:

• Host: become a host.
• Teacher: become a teacher.
• Course leader: become a course leader.
• Coordinator: become a coordinator.

How important is it to be able to speak Swedish?

Not.

The courses are taught in Swedish, so there is no avoiding it. However, all our participants can speak English. Volunteering is a great way to practice Swedish.

What are guidelines for volunteers?

These are some guidelines for volunteers.

• You are boss! This means you have the freedom to do things your way, when you also take the responsibility for this and follow the general Uppsala Makerspace rules.
• Let us know when you unexpectedly cannot be there. This happens to all us sometimes. There is no need to provide a reason for you absence: we trust you :-)
• Your best is good enough! There is no single volunteer that is perfect and/or makes no mistakes. You can be open about your doubts and you are not the only one.
• Prefer to be there for all learners, not just one. It is easy to fall into 1-on-1 teaching, but that does not scale well: we do not have as much volunteers as learners...
• You are encouraged to disagree! There is no single volunteer that knows The Best Way, so you can be boss and try out something new.
• You are encouraged to share your ideas! As there is no single volunteer that knows The Best Way, it is common that you will be asked for your opinion on matters, such as on how to improve the courses
• When you start teaching at a regular basis, you will be asked to provide a 'Registerutdrag'. You can find the details at the 'Registerutdrag' page.
